PC Engine Avenue Pad 3

And lo, God created the controller pad, stepping back from his mighty original PC Engine creation he thought "Damned fine work there, even if I say so myself; but wait... is two buttons enough for one of my finest creations: The PC Engine? Shit, no."

And on the ninth day, God created the Avenue Pad 3. Day eight was spent perfecting the original PC Engine, in case you were wondering.

Before I bought this I had no idea what the difference between a two button and a three button pad was.

I can now reveal to thee the Gospel:
Buttons I and II both function as normal (and have the usual auto fire options). Button III allows you to map either nothing, "Select" or "Run" functions.
As you can se, I have mine set to select as this is often used in shooters to adjust the speed of your craft or something along those lines. It really comes into it own when playing something like Forgotten Worlds where button II fires, button I rotates clockwise and "Select" rotates anti-clockwise. Without the third button, you would have to take your thumb off the direction pad in order to rotate, thus meaning you couldn't move your character. Nice.

God, now satisfied; sat back, fired up his bong and gave Gates of Thunder a good going over.
