Sony PSP (Pretty Shite Portable?)

I admit I was sucked in by the hype and got mine not long after the Japanese launch. After the initial excitement of Ridge Racers and Lumines wore off, I was left pretty cold by it; only buying the UK version of WipEout since then.

I know the last thing that the PSP is another person knocking it; but it is a bit crap, especially if you compare it to the "inferior" Nintendo DS (Lite, the original DS was an ugly bitch).
It's official that the screen is made from 90% butter as it's so soft (even my expensive microfibre cloth leaves marks on it) and the police use the black plastic instead of ink pads for taking finger prints. The battery life is an issue, although not a huge one, and the "fenced off" CPU power is stupid, just stupid.

Ask yourself: what is the PSP for?
I'm not sure. Is it a way to make extra revenue from PS2 games by releasing inferior ports? That'll become more of an issue when PS3 comes out (although success of that isn't guaranteed either) as games will be more difficult to port cheaply. It's also way too delicate to lug around, even in a nice case: the DS is pretty robust and has a clam shell design, even the GB Micro fits snuggly into you pocket. Lastly (for now), the controls are a bit wonky. The d-pad is crap and the analogue nub, while being a good idea has been poorly executed.

I think Sony should go for a redesign as Nintendo did for the DS (and Game Boy Advance, and Game Boy).

It's not all doom and gloom for Sony's all show and no go console. It's taken a while; but there are games I am interested in finally appearing. In recent months we've had Exit and Loco Roco and now Ultimate Ghosts and Goblins is out. Me, I really fancy Every Extend Extra.
