Got an Egret II delivered yesterday! Both outside and inside is in need of a thorough cleaning and there are some tricky stairs it'll have to navigate, so I am now looking to disassemble the cabinet into more manageable pieces. Control panel and monitor bezel has been removed so we're now reaching the scary part... the monitor.

In short, how do I get the monitor out of the cabinet? We have managed to disconnect some of the cabling (degauss, earth) and remove the neck board but there are still some things left which seems much harder to reach. Do I need to slide out the chassis board in order to loosen these? Also assume the tube should be discharged and anode removed before pulling the tube out?

Please explain in as much excruciating detail as you can muster. Thanks!

wires to remove

ground strap from neckboard PCB, and neckboard itself from rear of tube
yoke wires from chassis, demag wires from chassis, undo the RGBS connector
discharge monitor, remove from tube and out of back of wooden board
undo 4 screws on the wooden board - 2 at top of tube, 2 at bottom

Demag is gone, but the other two I have trouble reaching... any hints? Discharge the tube first maybe to make it safer...?

the yoke wires are the ones you will have problems seeing, and is why chun extended his to the flippy yoke box because he didn't fancy feeling his way around the chassis.

if you discharge the monitor, you could always undo the 4 screws that hold the chassis in place, and with help of an extra pair of hands drop the chassis so you can see where they are and which way they go in

Everything in the cabinet is to be taken out for cleaning so may as well remove the chassis before the tube then to make things easier I guess. Discharged the tube yesterday following Grant's instructions (http://www.killercabs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12584), pretty scary but in the end I only got a tiny click...! How do I know if the tube was indeed properly discharged?

you dont really unless you have a HV probe

if you've discharged the monitor your half way to getting this all sorted anyways - but if you need pics of removing an Egret monitor, I *may* be able to help later this week with pictures

Thanks for all the help, think I am just about ready to get it all done next I have a mate over to help me.

Another sort of related question though, once everything is out of the cab what would be the recommended method to clean the chassis and back of the tube? Normally I wouldn't want to mess with it but 10+ years of grime is just too much!

compressed air mainly, the stuff you get in a can will shift some of it, but you know when you go to a Petrol Station there are those sections where you can check tyre pressure (well in the UK at least we do) I know that one guy used one of those to clean up some of his PCB's and whatnot, as they are a lot higher pressure - makes the cans of air seem like a fart in comparison

And even then you still get "discharge paranoia" ..... even with a HV probe I got to wondering if the probe was OK ..... must test it on 240V ac one of these days.....

Having just done this myself, God knows how you make it look so easy Mark , I fiddled around for ages until I finally got em back on blind......

Finally got around to fiddling with this again yesterday, had a friend over and we were going to remove the monitor but just couldn't persuade that damned anode to let go of the tube! Ohh wise ones, what is the secret...?

screwdriver to push the 2 pins closer together, then use your hand to manipulate it out of place
