I was watching American football today, and it reminded me of something I was thinking about a couple weeks back. As most of you probably know there was an NFL game played in the U.K. recently (The Giants vs The Dolphins). I enjoy the sport, but sometimes find it extremely over rate. A lot of Americans take it to the extremely. So my question is does anyone outside the U.S., especially the U.K., care about American Football?

The reason I ask this is because the announcers were talking about the NFL expanding across the ocean. Does American football even have a big enough fan base to warrant an overseas team?

I did....many moons ago.....when i was a kid i used to watch NFL all the time!!

Then it was shown on a saturday morning here!!

My fave team was the Miami Dolphins when the legendary "Dan Marino" played for them. I remember getting the NFL "rule book" & "play's book" for my birthday so i could sit there & try to guess what "play" they were going with next....:cool:

I don't know what happened but i think in the early-mid nineties i kinda just lost interest & they were showing a lot of the matches at odd times throughout the day here, even at "silly o'clock" in the morning....

TBH i should have been at that friggin match the other day as i probably would have enjoyed gettin into it again...:redface:

Not very constructive, I don't like "soccer", so I'm unlikely to enjoy the NFL. One good thing about NFL is it's family orientation. Not like getting your head kicked-in over a pork pie here.

I used to watch it a lot, back when we just had highlights programmes on a Saturday morning as joeblade says. I was a 49ers fan during the Joe Montana then Steve Young days. Once they started putting it on live I kind of lost interest, the only game worthy of me watching for 4 hours was the superbowl, and I don't even stay up late for that now.

I would have liked to have gone to the game in London though. If the 49ers ever play over here then I'll go, hopefully by then the draft system will have done it's work and the 49ers will be good again. That is one of the weird things for us brits, the way the worst teams get first choice at the players and therefore have a chance of catching up the others in years to come. Over here we are used to the best teams staying the best, more $$ = more success.

uhm... i watch a fair amount of sports on tv, but i have to admit that NFL is not one of them, neither is NHL, or MLB...

it's quite funny how many of these sports i learnt the rules of through playing videogames (just like mahjong!). equally, it's also quite funny how much military jargon i've picked up from games even though i dont play FPS that much, so i can only imagine how much those who do would know.

back to american sports... er... i dunno why i don't, probably because of the time of day they're on. and do they broadcast them with the original american commentators/ pundits?? if that is the case then that's probably why. for some reason my mind is only capable of digesting sports if it's in english. actually, watching the football on channel 5, usually the uefa cup, with their commentaries is barely acceptable.

I just don't see american football catching in the UK to the point of starting a frachise there. It would be great for the sport, but very unlikely. It may be a little to hard to establish a reliable fan base. If someone had to choose between going or watching an american football match or a soccer match I would guess the majority would pick soccer.

I think NFL would be too stop-start for the UK audience.

If you think the American's like sport, you should get over here. Fook me, theres about 20 sports bars within 10 minutes of my house.

OK, so we've just had the rugby. The cricket is just about over, the netball was on a couple of weeks ago. There's motorsport on every weekend, as well as footy (if you can call it that!). Then there'll be volleyball in the summer (not a bad thing), sea swimming, mountainbiking, motorcross & then back to the rugby again.

if I've learned anything, and I haven't, it's that girls should stick to girl's sports like hot oil wrestling, foxy boxing and such and such
