There's something cool about old metal candies isn't there. You can see why I'd take an MVU4 over a Super Neo.

Hey rich, i won't give away too much at this moment in time...but i'll tell ya i spent hours on the Cp today..maybe a clue...& its defo non of that hardware matey!?....
But the next pic i throw in here..will instantly give the game away anyhow...its a cab i snagged specifically for one title & it'll stay in its steel candy fer sure!..
I would have inserted some more pic's of work carried out yesterday & today...but alais...my Dig-cam has developed a weird fault...well i needed a new one anyway.
Time for this...

A few main panel's were Primed with 2k today & ready for paint tomorrow...
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d108/marc-spence-/Caveboxdamage473.jpg
Here are a few i did last week....five components painted & assembled..yay!!
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d108/marc-spence-/Caveboxdamage401.jpg
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d108/marc-spence-/Caveboxdamage410.jpg
Most dents were tapped out...some had to be filled with P38...no sweat.

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d108/marc-spence-/Caveboxdamage420.jpg
So so many parts to these pony 28's...it seems neverending....but i'll have to state again, the build quality is amazing...all the panels are quite weighty..& everything comes down..there's a silly amount of separate components to the speaker/marq header...

Now that's a finish i'm proud of....

do you have to get into your space suit everytime you do this kinda stuff, spraying etc?

and does it take long for everything to dry??

Hey chun.., sure do...Isocyanate paint (2-paK) is deadly, all Body-shops use 2k now..its the best paint & once applied to a car panel it is 'baked' & is dry completely through in a half hour or so...
The finish is extremely hard & does not fade...2k will cover anything unlike some cellulose paints...lead base, water based etc.
The paint is touch dry after 30 mins & completely hardens off in two days (i don't have a baking booth!).
Was 6hrs in the garage today & felt like i had done only a little....sometimes it seems like like , but i have done quite a bit truth told.

How does the finish compare to powdercoating? I have a special project cab coming in Tone's order that needs some TLC.

I may have to get you to do a little job for me on part of it as it will be beyond my skills and I wouldn't trust any of the local bodyshops with it.

Paid of course...

6 hours!!! where do all the time go?? i guess getting all the surfaces prepared for spraying would take a while. does the act of spraying take no time at all or does that take just as long??

Painting is the easy part tbh..1st coat concentrate on the edges, & a mist total coverage...then 10mins Flash off...then final 'wet' coat & leave...any more than three coats & you'll promote heavy paint & sagging..not cool.
Poor preparation always results in a crap finish..& you don't want to be rubbing down any paint you have applied....paint is £33.50/solids per litre.
Also if paint is applied right first time...no buffing is required...as you have a wet/glass finish.

Pen just got yer pm ,...
Right...a good 2k paint finish is stunning....literally like looking into a mirror..almost looks 'wet', now powder coating is a quick way out for some people..as anyone can strip a cab & have someone polyester-bead blast their panels...my pony would have cost a fortune to powder coat...(LOTS of steel parts)...P-C finish is not as shiny..just checkout my pics.
But a p-c finish is even more tougher wearing...idealistically in my experience i powder-coat alloy wheels & motorbike rims..bike frames etc..as they need a tough finish to repel stone/salt/weather etc, & don't chip when removing tyres off a bike rim.
Is your £300 washing machine plastic coated?...or how about your car !?.
Paint always gives a better finish...also dented panels cannot be filled if being pd coated!!...& of course plastic ABS candys have to be painted for obvious reasons:laugh:
2k paint FYI is very hard & hard wearing...hand rubbing with t-cut will not touch it...has to be power buffed.
Here's my abs plastic Windy cp i painted last year...

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d108/marc-spence-/Windyprogress164.jpg
Just to show the finish...but you get the idea..
http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d108/marc-spence-/Windyprogress.020.jpg

My pony was like a colander in places....drill holes etc...all had to be filled...you could not fill them then get it PDC'd.
Basically....you save half & more if you paint rather than p-coat.
