No not at all.., tbh Rob hubbard opened up new genres with the c64 & taught new programmers/musicians new tricks, i think c64 gaming was prolonged as a trait of this, it attracted more people to the c64.
Its still astonishing what Thalamus & Rainbow arts sqeezed out of these machines!!.
A LOT of arcade conversions on the c64 were pretty good & sometimes more enjoyable to play...& get this, most had better music than the arcade originals....for instance Alien syndrome, Ghoul's n Ghosts...LED storm...Bionic commandos..etc etc:smile:

Technically fantastic and each new game had something never seen before.

Ah, the originality of the olden days...

Slap fight is still awesome now, i love the "trade off" between powering up your ship & manouverability....i remember playin it on the 64 with my m8 (who could clock it) and watching him throw his comp pro 5000 joystick against the wall in anger!!:biggrin::laugh::rolleyes:

i have!! does that make me the "hardest corer" in shoot 'em ups here??

i bought it off a nice chap on shmups.com in america who had a spare.

if only vB forums would fix some of the things they've broken since the upgrade, then you can see that i have these shooters in my collection:

star force
slap fight
twin cobra
vulcan venture
ibara

...i think that's it.
top 4 on the list i used to play in my local arcade:

ibara... uhm... still not sure about these new shooters y'know.
(but thanks to superpang for the education... i'm still learning)

sure, but i'll have to ask you to wait till early next week as i'm running around at the moment.

in truth, i'm really rubbish at the game, always have been. i guess i should really turn the difficulty back down from hard to easy (apparently, the guy i got it from can 1cc it on hard difficulty)... i always struggle from level 3 onwards, yeah, i'm that rubbish.

the amstrad version i had as a child, haha, it was in a tiny window surrounded by massive boarders. i think you can only get 1 set of sides as well. the bomb was tiny. cant remember who did the conversion now, but it was pretty poor.

probably doesnt help that i play slap fight on those rotary sticks... too lazy to rotate the screen on the other cab. i think i'm gonna put some energy into finishing time solders on that cab and then rotate it to play ikari III since i havent played that much since getting hold of it a while ago. maybe then i'll get hold of midnight resistance too.
