Not sure who owns a 360 with an HDMI output; but it really seems tagged on. The quality looks bobbins.
I'm sure I need to switch my 360 and telly off to connect it in order to get it to actually work.

Microsoft cutting corners? NEVER.

Not has any of these sorts of problems with my PS3, shit games; great build quality) or my DVD player.

That sucks darren!!:sad2:

My m8 said the difference in quality was quite amazing from component to hdmi...much better he thought!!

Luckily i've only got a bog standard 360 so difficult decisions like these are taken out of my hands....:joystick:

Oh, the picture quality is great. It just seems that from a hardware perspective MS just glued it on, that's what I was moaning about.

I even got a look a the back of a (broken) Wii recently and that looks like a well put together bit of kit.

I've got a bog standard 360 too, but no HDMI socket on my TV anyway so it's not a problem. The HDMI certainly looks nice on my friends elite console though.

So is a 360 Elite HDMI socket of the same build quality as that of my Halo 3 console?

Sorry chief, bad choice of wording before. I meant the picture quality was nice, I haven't looked at the socket. I'll see an elite on Friday and can have a look then.:inky:

360 only has HDMI 1.2, not the latest 1.3 like with PS3.

Yeah; but the actual socket is a bit wobbly in the back of the console. Lile it'd a real afterthoigh.

If you see a pic of the bare board you can see all the sockets are stacked.

Can you update HDMI to V1.3 with a software upgrade or is it the hardware it self?

I take it v1.3 is needed for 24fp etc?

I'm not actually that fussed, but I did want an Elite due to the fact that everything else AV is black, bar the wii & Xbox.

I think 1.3 is needed for True Dolby HD & the new DTS sound formats, rumour has it that MGS4 will use the new Dolby sound format uncompressed at about 20gb just for the audio, hence why BD is needed.

I think these new sound formats are beginning to be a bit of a joke tbh...

Still hard work gettin hold of the receivers in this country at the mo & judging by most peoples living rooms....it's only gonna provide a "marginal" sound improvement anyways...

Bearing in mind that a portion of the so called "hd" equipment isn't geared for 1.3 at the mo regardless...:mad2:

Yeah HD is nice...but god are they making it a bloody "minefield" for the customer!!

I've not upgraded my amp because of this.

As soon as I bought a new TV this whole 24fps stuff started to become the norm. You aint half right Joeblade. It's a total nightmare & thats for the people that do the research, it's just pot luck for Joe Public

I'm waiting for Nippon Columbia's (Denon) next amp before I get onboard, not a big fan of Onkyo tbh, still got my Denon 2802 here & its good enough for now.

I'd be happy with plain old Dolby Digital as U have nothing at the moment.

So if someone is upgrading and need to get shot of their old kit cheap...

I'm looking at one of the ONYKO amps. NZ$3000 for the dogs danglies over here (about £1100).

Will probably sell my DD/DTS amp when I get back home.
