This is a bit of a gaming topic; but this section seems to be as good as anywhere to put it.
Basically, I think our gaming falls into three basic categories:
Arcade Gaming
Modern Console/PC Gaming
Retro Console/PC Gaming
I know we only have a few members a the moment so I will sticky this poll so that we can build up a picture of the "main" areas of interest for everyone.
For example I fall into all three catergories quite seriously; but one does take presidence over the others. This may be useful in steering WPG in the direction that members would prefer.

lack of 2player competition, as Bruce Lee said to O'Hara "boards . . . don't hit back"
VS CPU in a 2D fighter for me doesn't have that same feel as VS an opponent

i voted .............. Old school is the real school
alot can be learnt about the older games, graphics aint everything, game play is the way.
im like meg really as i need 2 votes, on the pc i play mostly old as in emulation, but every now and again ill tinker on a new game for an hour or so, but i do prefer to mess about with the old stuff more than anything else, saturn, psx, n64, this is why i voted old stuff.
iv not voted arcade as iv not used any of my cabs in ages now, so thats out.:joystick:

i think it just goes to show that the old stuff is the best, i was playing those arcade games in the forum last night and i really enjoyed my self, there simple, fun, easy to play, the new games are more serious like movies, theres no fun in other words.

Well I like all three but it would be modern consoles for me these days  My game time is mostly on the 360 and DS
Do I get banned for admitting to it?

Well..now & for the forseeable future...its definately Arcade gaming (old and new)...for me,..last year i had all the major retro machines...with multitudes & i mean hordes of 'key' minty rare titles for all of them...dammit when it came to the engine i had ALL the separate mint boxed consoles!!!...it got out of hand..150 Ngh titles!!!...& 80% of the games consoles were set up & played just about every evening...these were all played hard..
The last ngh games i remember buying were Euro NTM & DD.
But then i saw the light...in the form of Kc & the fact that they could get hold of JPN candy's...well it all changed from then on i can tell ya..
All my fav ngh carts were sourced with minty mvs kit versions & most of my favourite console titles were aquired on Pcb..
I'm mainley into shmup's...then fighter's...& with my sales of ngh & various other console bit's n bobs they funded my Cave shmup desire!!.
Only Jpn title i miss on the Ps2 was Gradius 5..now that was special!!.
Yeah yeah...in the past all the Metal gears & Resi evil titles wowed me...but these day's Meh!!..give me something that has NOT aged with time...Namely Sf's & any decent shmup...these games are different everytime you play.
Time wasted going down a familiar route in Mg could be better spent learning a VERY difficult boss bullet/missle pattern..in say Ketsui or DoJ...& gaining higher scores...& sense of achievment.
& Btw...home arcade gaming in nothing new to me...back in 85 i had a mint sit down 'Space invaders 2' & a stand-up woody...but from 88-93 i needed space so a supergun sufficed with SF2-turbo & Carrier airwing/nemesis & salamander...hey & i had a power instinct too...great days.

Arcade gaming :BigGrin(DBG):
and second old school, never had anything younger than a megadrive :Thinking(DBG):
I'm defo an Arcade man, though don't mind old school arcade games (Galaga and Defender are the nuts, f'rinstance!).
However, for home gaming, it depends on what you call oldskool. Old school to me is Atari 2600 (=the first console I ever played), and I'd rather be stabbed in the eye with a spoon than play 99% of games for that again (there was a horizontal shooter I quite liked and would probably risk playing again, but I don't recall the name of it) - it was fine when that was all we had, but it just doesn't cut it nowadays!
Though I do have a soft spot for many, many Amiga games... and a bunch of Amstrad CPC464 games (emulated, please - I can't go through tape loading any more!) too, like Rebelstar (gawd bless the Gollup brothers and their skirmish wargames!) and They Stole a Million (never understood it when I were a nipper, but now I do!).
I don't do many modern consoles or PC games... unless they are particularly fab.

Voted modern because I'm a relative noob in the home arcade scene and so still spend more time on my PC/360. However as I become more confident dealing with the technical side of things my time will start to sway towards my cabs.

I voted for Arcade, mainly because I enjoy the technical side of the hobby.
Gaming wise, old school is the best. As Hawky said at the beginning, graphics ain't everything. Again, I'm quite happy to mod old-school consoles, but apart from maybe adding a new video-out socket (i.e. Component on my xbox) newer consoles are too complex for hardware mods.

I feel like a parrot, new systems (whether it is console or arcade) are too much like being in IT, an industry I tried to avoid going back into but have conceited I may aswell get back into it (even if its just for car related tomfoolery) proof is i've just had to upgrade this post to service pack 2 and upgrade its drivers before being allowed it to be displayed.
John, I take it by reading your sig you use your nose to type ? if so your style is impressive, nice "keystrokes"

Metal Gear was a bonus and nothing more. (sorry to all the ppl loving the series. PA was and is the better game for me.)

I had all the Sonic titles on release darren...absolutely played these to death & seen everything finished back to front etc,...i could never go back to playing these.
One example was Dracula X on the Turbo Duo...purchased this on release too..uncovered all secrets & 100% finish.
Got hold of it again couple of years ago & it felt really crusty & the sound just did not impress anymore...challenge gone.
There were oodles of titles i loved...but when i got them back i thought yeah...these were cool back in the day, but now!?..Meh.
I got hold of an original Hong Kong MD..& a handfull of decent titles...(awhile back)...Devil Crash i found had not aged...still the best Pinball title i have ever played imho.

The only Sonic game I played back in the day was Sonic 3.
I now have 1, 2, 3 (which I am happy to play again), Sonic & Knuckles and the splendid Sonic CD. I even have Choatix to play, which I count as a sonic game.
I didn't have much money back then and only really played my SNES and Amiga, that's why I'm so into the Mega Drive at the moment.
I'm playing a few N64 games I did have back in time, although, again I now own a good few games I didn't get then either. I think Excite Bike being the main one, and for some reason, I can remember very little about Starfox 64 (or Lylat Wars as it was) and am looking forward to playing that again a lot.
